
A judge on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old man to life in prison for first-degree murder in the 2014 bludgeoning death of another man who was sleeping on his own couch.
Charlie Brammeier used a Maglite flashlight to , 43, who was at his home in Lakewood, according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office for Jefferson and Gilpin counties.
Brammeier of first-degree murder; second-degree murder; burglary; aggravated robbery; and aggravated motor vehicle theft on April 26.
He was sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree murder charge, 10 years in prison for the robbery charge and two years for the motor vehicle theft charge. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
Brammeier testified at his trial that he was was angry about a $20 drug transaction and was in a crack-cocaine induced psychosis when he bludgeoned Gomez.
After assaulting Gomez, Brammeier broke into the Larkspur home of his parents, who were not there at the time. He stole from them before fleeing to Texas, where he was later apprehended.
