Since its inception in 2008, San Francisco’s has essentially become a more convenient and streamlined Bonnaroo.
Where that grandaddy of festivals crams what seems like 100 bands of every genre into a field in Manchester, Tennessee, Outside Lands feels like a more tailored affair. The choices of who to see are fewer, but no less difficult.
And so while it may not have as many bands as Bonnaroo, Outside Lands 2016 probably still had as many of your favorite bands. Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, J. Cole, Third Eye Blind, Grimes, Nathaniel Rateliff and yeah, even the Muppets — a huge get for all of us who’ve always wanted to see Animal beat the skins live.
