Authorities in Garfield County have identified the 28-year-old woman found dead on Friday in Glenwood Springs in what investigators have .
Blanca Judith Jurado Salas died of multiple gunshot wounds, county Coroner Robert Glassmire says. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office had initially said the victim was 24 years old.
Gustavo Olivo-Tellez, 27, was arrested Saturday morning in the case on suspicion of first-degree murder. Investigators say he was wanted on a previous domestic violence warrant in which authorities say Salas was the victim.
An arrest warrant identifies Olivo-Tellez as Salas’ ex-boyfriend.
According to the warrant for Olivo-Tellez, he had been driven to Salas’ home by his current girlfriend, at which point he shot Salas several times.
Salas’ body was found Friday night by sheriff’s deputies responding to a report of a possible homicide at the Pinon Pines apartments in Glenwood Springs.
“As the investigation continued, Gustavo Olivo-Tellez was identified as a primary suspect in what appears to be a case of extreme domestic violence,” the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said in a weekend news release.
Olivo-Tellez was taken into custody in Mesa County on Saturday morning. The arrest warrant says investigators used cell phone records and data from a license plate reader in order to track him down.
Olivo-Tellez was taken into custody on the no bail warrant.
