A teenager suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint has been arrested and is being charged as an adult.
Dominic Gabriel Barrios, 16, allegedly jumped into the back seat of the victim’s car as she sat in the driver’s seat, surprising the young woman and holding a knife to her throat, according to an arrest affidavit.
The incident happened Jan. 17 in a Target parking lot at West 50th Avenue and Kipling Street. Barrios allegedly drove the victim around for about two hours, at one point sexually assaulting her inside the car.
Barrios allegedly forced the woman to withdraw money from an ATM, robbing her. He eventually removed the battery from her cellphone and left her abandoned in an industrial area, the affidavit said.
The victim eventually made her way home and called 911. Barrios was arrested Jan. 19 by Arvada police.
“This case is everyone woman’s nightmare,” Jefferson County District Attorney Pete Weir said in a news release. “This is a powerful reminder that everyone needs to be vigilant, particularly women walking alone in parking lots after dark.”
Barrios has been charged with 18 criminal counts including first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, sex assault and aggravated robbery. He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 9.
