The 54th annual junior livestock sale at the State Fair raised $502,525 on Tuesday in Pueblo for Colorado youths involved in agriculture.

This year’s Grand Champion Market Beef, shown by Julia Frye of Johnstown, sold for $63,000 to Sam Brown and family. The Grand Champion Market Hog, shown by Vada Vickland of Longmont, sold for $30,000 to the Denver Rustlers. The Grand Champion Lamb, shown by Caitlyn Anderson, of Ault, brought in $12,000 from Anadarko Petroleum.

“For over 50 years, the Colorado State Fair junior livestock sale has been the pre-eminent event for Colorado’s 4-H and FFA youth, and this sale is a reflection of their hard work,” said State Fair General Manager Sarah Cummings. “We would like to thank and recognize the generous bidders who make this experience possible for Colorado’s agricultural youths. Without their patronage, the sale could not be as successful as it has become.”

The junior livestock sale supports the future of Colorado’s agricultural industry while encouraging and rewarding young people.

In the past 36 years, the sale has raised nearly $10.3 million. In 2016, the sale raised more than $493,500.

Proceeds from the sales help Colorado youth exhibitors further their education while supporting the state’s agricultural economy.
