The Denver metro area should expect a sunny, dry and hot — potentially record-breakingly so — Labor Day weekend.

“The big headline is hot,” National Weather Service meteorologist Russell Danielson said.

Saturday should have a high of 91 degrees with a low of 58 degrees, he said. It’ll get even hotter Sunday with an expected high of 97 degrees and a low of 60 degrees. Monday should continue the hot trend with a 92-degree high and a 55-degree low.

Sunday could tie or break a record for the day that currently sits at 95 degrees and was set in 1995, Danielson said.

Tuesday should bring relief with a short cold front. The high is expected to be 72 degrees. But it’ll be relatively short lived, he said. Temperatures are expected to jump up to 81 degrees Wednesday and then back above average Thursday.

The Denver metro area should also expect smoky skies to stick around throughout the weekend as wildfires continue to burn in the northwest, Danielson said.
