ESTES PARK — Rocky Mountain National Park is set to give its Fall River Entrance Station a facelift — in a few years.

The director of the Intermountain Region of the National Park Service signed a decision document allowing the park to make improvements to the station. Proposed changes included the addition of a fast-pass lane for use by pass-holding visitors, employees and emergency vehicles, according to a park statement.

On top of that, the existing entrance and exit lanes will be reconfigured, and all existing buildings will be replaced with newly constructed ones with updated equipment and systems for ventilation and technology. The current layout of buildings will be kept to minimize the impact on the Fall River Entrance Historic District.

The project is intended to improve accessibility and add new parking spaces and pedestrian paths.

It will be several years before construction begins, though, according to the agency.
