The man accused of shooting two Denver police officers over the weekend, and who died Monday, has been officially identified.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner on Tuesday identified Joseph Quintana, 35, as being taken by ambulance Sunday from the 600 block of Inca Street to Denver Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on Monday.

The cause and manner of his death is “pending investigation,” the coroner’s office said.

Officials have not said how the suspect died, nor what injuries he sustained in Sunday’s standoff at a home on Inca Street near its intersection with Sixth Avenue.

The two officers who were shot remained hospitalized Monday in fair condition, police said.

Jail records show Quintana was arrested on an attempted-murder charge around midnight Sunday. The suspect’s arrest documents are sealed from public view.
