Two people were killed and one was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Aurora, police said.
The crash occurred around 6:40 a.m. near the corner of South Chambers Road and East Hampden Avenue, police said in a blog post.
Police determined that the car was crossing over East Hampden Avenue when it lost control and veered off the road. The car struck a tree, police said, and was cut in half.
The driver and a passenger in the backseat were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. A passenger in the front seat managed to climb out of the wrecked car, turning up seven hours later at a local hospital with significant injuries, according to police.
“Speed is almost certainly a factor in this crash,” police stated.
Police have not released the identities of those involved in the crash.
Aurora police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Sergeant William Revelle at 303-739-6374.
