
Nuggets forward-center was one of six NBA players added Thursday to Team USA’s World Cup training camp roster.
The other five are the Celtics’ Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart, Clippers’ Montrezl Harrell, Knicks’ Julius Randle and Bulls’ Thaddeus Young.
“The six players we added today are all outstanding players in their own right, and along with the other players who will attend the World Cup Team training camp, will offer Coach (Gregg) Popovich and his staff some remarkable athleticism and versatility,” managing director Jerry Colangelo said in a news release.
Denver forward is among several players who are no longer attending the camp.
Plumlee, 29, was a member of the 2014 men’s national team that won the gold medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup. He appeared in all nine games, averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds off the bench.
The 6-foot-11, 235-pounder averaged 7.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 82 games for the Nuggets last season. He was named to the NBA all-rookie first team in 2014 when he was with the . He was selected out of Duke with the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2013 NBA draft.
White named to select team. Former Colorado Buffaloes and Legend High School star Derrick White was named to the 2019 USA Basketball men’s select team on Thursday.
White, who plays with the Spurs, is one of 13 players on the squad that will train with the national team from Aug. 5-8 at Mendenhall Center in Las Vegas.
“The purpose of the Select Team is to help prepare our National Team for the World Cup and to offer an opportunity for some younger NBA standouts to be involved in the USA Basketball National Team program,” Colangelo said in a news release.
