A 39-year-old man was found dead in front of a residence in Cañon City on Saturday evening after a report of a shooting, and police are looking for information about a dark or black sedan with Louisiana license plates.

Officers responded at 9:24 p.m. Saturday to a report of a gunshot fired in the 600 block of Spruce Court where they found 39-year-old Richard Fay had died, according to a news release from Cañon City Police Department. Authorities would not confirm if Fay was shot. Police spokesman Steve Huskey said officials are not ready to release information related to injuries but said the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

No suspects have been arrested and police are still investigating the death, though they said there is no threat to the public.

The sedan was seen in the area of the shooting before the shot was heard, the news release stated. However, investigators said it’s unclear if the vehicle was involved in the incident. police ask that if anyone sees the vehicle, they should call 911 but not attempt to talk to anyone in the sedan.

No additional information was provided.
