Wolf Creek ski area was the big winner in the massive snowfalls that pounded much of the Colorado high country since late last week, accumulating a three-day total of 45 inches, according to Monday morning’s snow report.
That led the nation for snowfall over the previous 72 hours, according to , which compiles and compares snowfall totals from coast to coast.
Breckenridge reported 29 inches in the previous 72 hours and 46 for the previous seven days. Loveland received 40 inches over the past seven days, and Monarch 38.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is reporting “dangerous” avalanche conditions in nearly every Colorado mountain range, including the Front Range, the areas around Vail and Summit County, Steamboat, Aspen and Gunnison, the Sawatch Range, the San Juans and the Sangre de Cristo Range.
“CAIC forecasters and CDOT maintenance workers are reporting remotely (triggered) large and dangerous avalanches that are breaking wide and cracks that are propagating 500-800 feet,” CAIC said. “Stay clear of avalanche terrain.”
