Police say they’ve arrested a 17-year-old suspect in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy this week at a Brighton park,
Brighton police identified the victim as Josiah Gonzales.
The suspect, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was arrested at his family’s home in Commerce City on Thursday, Brighton police reported in a news release.
According to Cmdr. Monce Portillo, after the case is presented to the district attorney’s office, a decision will be made whether or not the suspect will be tried as a juvenile or as an adult.
“BPD detectives have been working non-stop since Josiah’s death sorting through evidence, interviewing witnesses and tracking down leads,” the news release said.
What led to the shooting is still under investigation, police say.
