An Adams County man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder in the death of a former girlfriend who was moving out of the residence they had shared when she was shot.
Jeffrey Aschenbrenner, 34, was sentenced Thursday in Adams County District Court in the death of 43-year-old Monica Medina, according to a news release from the . Aschenbrenner was also convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder after .
On Nov. 27, 2021, Medina, with the help of her father, was moving out of a residence she had shared with Aschenbrenner when she was shot, according to the news release.
The victims were in an Audi and Aschenbrenner fired three shots at the vehicle, which was across a street from where the father’s truck was parked. The pair fled in the Audi and Aschenbrenner followed in his vehicle, catching up the Audi and firing more shots, the release said. A bullet hit Medina in the hip, she later died at a hospital.
“This was a deplorable and cowardly crime,” said District Attorney Brian Mason, in a February news release at the time of the conviction. “The defendantap actions took a life and destroyed countless others.”
