Denver residents face rain Wednesday morning, and more snow may fall in the mountains west of the city, with clouds diminishing in the afternoon, leading to mostly clear skies at night, according to the National Weather Service.
The high temperature Wednesday in Denver will be 51 degrees, decreasing to 36 degrees Wednesday night, weather service forecasters said.
Snow falling in the mountains, foothills, and along the Palmer Divide between Denver and Colorado Springs was expected to bring up to four inches, creating slick driving conditions on some roads. The heaviest snow was expected in western Jefferson County. Early Wednesday, metro Denver roads and Interstate 25 were mostly just wet, and forecasters said rain is expected to diminish across northern Colorado.
The recent storm brought significant snow — from 3 inches to 5 inches at higher elevations in the mountains, and ski areas received snow (Breckenridge 5 inches, Winter Park/Mary Jane 3 inches, Copper Mountain 4 inches).
On Thursday, temperatures are expected to rebound, with a high in Denver reaching 68 degrees, forecasters said. The wind was expected to pick up Thursday, gusting at speeds up to 28 miles per hour. On Thursday night, rain is likely in metro Denver, shifting to snow by early Friday, weather service forecasters said. Less than an inch of snow was expected to accumulate by Friday at noon with the high temperature in Denver Friday expected to be 54 degrees.
Rain and snow will be diminishing across Northern Colorado this morning. Additional snowfall for the mountains, foothills and Palmer Divide will be up to 4 inches. Watch out for slick conditions over the mountains and Palmer Divide this morning.
