Boulder police shot a dog attacking a person Sunday morning.

Animal protection officers later euthanized the dog because of its injuries, police said, and the person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police officers responded to a disturbance at 8:17 a.m. in the 3200 block of Palo Parkway and found a dog severely attacking someone, according to a .

“The dog posed (a) significant risk to multiple bystanders,” the post stated. “Unfortunately, less lethal measures were ineffective, and officers had to discharge their firearm after the dog tried to attack the officers.”

Officers applied tourniquets on the person who was then taken to a hospital.

Animal protection officers later euthanized the dog because of its injuries.

Boulder police said they were not conducting any media interviews Sunday and would release more information Monday.
