The leader of a Denver gang linked to dozens of drive-by shootings pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and violating the state’s organized crime act, the district attorney’s office announced Monday.
Phillip Serapio Baca was one of the “Few But Plenty” members indicted on 114 felonies involving 47 victims in 2022. Baca, 44, was also charged with 21 counts of attempted murder, assault, attempted assault and conspiracy that were dismissed as part of his plea agreement on Friday, court records show.
He is set to be sentenced to 33 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections on June 27.
Baca was accused of ordering young men — many of whom were his sons and nephews — to commit crimes, including shooting the home of a rival gang member more than 20 times, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
“Phillip Baca was the leader of a ruthless criminal organization that terrorized west Denver neighborhoods,” said in a statement. “This guilty plea and sentence — and the sentences of other Few But Plenty gang members — are powerful steps toward fighting organized crime and improving public safety for all Denver residents.”
In a statement, Baca’s attorney Michael Faye said his client made the decision to plead guilty and accept a sentence that “ensures he will get out of prison to be with his children and grandchildren.”
“Mr. Baca and his family were the victims of many senseless and unprovoked violent acts,” Faye said. “Mr. Baca is a loving father and family man who would do anything to protect his family. Mr. Baca hopes that his family can begin to heal from the tragedy and suffering they have endured.”
All 11 Few But Plenty members charged in connection with the shootings have pleaded guilty, the DA’s office said.
