Two teens died in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down southbound Interstate 25 in Greenwood Village overnight, and four other people were injured, police said Friday.
The Greenwood Police Department said in a news release that two male juveniles, both 13 years old, were killed in what was called a “serious” crash shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday. One of the victims was from Henderson and the other from Commerce City. It was not clear if they were in the same vehicle or not.
No names of victims have been released. Further information about the severity of injuries was not immediately available.
Southbound I-25 was closed between Exit 198 at Orchard Road and Mile Point 197.6 near Arapahoe Road. It reopened early Friday morning, .
The Greenwood Village police said six people were taken to hospitals after the crash and that the two male juveniles “died as a result of the accident.” A preliminary investigation of the crash by police found that no drugs or alcohol were involved, but no cause of the crash has yet been pinpointed.
crews responded to the crash at 6:52 p.m. Thursday near I-25 and Arapahoe Road, the agency said on social media. A hazardous materials truck also responded to the scene for a fuel leak from one of the vehicles
The crash closed the light rail line near Greenwood Village on Thursday evening because of debris on the tracks. Shuttle buses were used to replace E-Line service at the Lincoln, County Line, Dry Creek, Arapahoe at Village Center, Orchard, Belleview and Southmoor stations.
RTD said Friday morning that E-Line service has resumed.
