One person died and three others were injured Sunday evening in a four-vehicle crash in eastern Aurora, .
The fatal crash at South Gun Club Road and East Jewell Avenue happened shortly after 4:45 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the . Parts of South Gun Club Road were closed between Jewell and East Hampden avenues for hours during the crash cleanup and investigation, police said.
Witnesses told investigators that a Jeep driving northbound on South Gun Club Road attempted to pass other drivers several times by crossing into the southbound lanes, police said in the release.
During one of the driver’s passing attempts, the Jeep rear-ended a Lexus sedan and abruptly swerved back into the southbound lanes, where the driver collided head-on with a Tesla, police said.
The fourth vehicle, a Dodge van, was clipped during the crash and sustained minor damage, Aurora police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said.
The Jeep driver died from her injuries at the scene of the crash, according to the release. She will be identified at a later date by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
Paramedics took two passengers in the Jeep and the Tesla driver to hospitals with serious injuries, according to the agency.
No one else was injured, Easterwood said. Speed and alcohol are both believed to be factors in the crash.
