Denver man dies after crashing off Adams County road into South Platte River

The crash happened Sunday evening near E. 58th Avenue and York Street, according to the Colorado State Patrol

A 22-year-old Denver driver died after crashing over the edge of an Adams County road on Sunday and rolling into the South Platte River, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Adams County Fire Rescue crews responded to the rollover crash near E. 58th Avenue and York Street, near Commerce City, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, . A video posted by the department showed a red Honda CRV in the river with its wheels in the air.

Paramedics took the driver to the hospital, where he later died, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.

He was the only person in the car at the time of the crash and will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, state patrol officials said.

The 22-year-old man was driving east on E. 58th Avenue when he crossed into the westbound lanes and went over the left side of the road, down the side of an embankment, state patrol officials said in the release. The car then rolled down the hill, coming to a rest on its roof in the river.

Adams County fire officials said the Denver driver was speeding before the crash. Bystanders in the area pulled the man out of the crashed car while waiting for first responders to arrive, according to the agency.
