One of Denver’s newer upscale bakeries is planning to open a cafe nearby where it can serve not just its “gravity-defying” laminated croissants and pastries, as it describes them, but coffee, sandwiches and pints of house-made ice cream.

will open the Black Box Café in the former Suzette Bakery and Cafe, 5901 W. 25th Ave. in Edgewater. Black Box has been located in the Edgewater Public Market since 2022, but it has grown its wholesale business during that time by supplying cafes, coffee shops and other retail locations around the metro area.

“Black Box Café will showcase what we’re capable of as a team,” said Arielle Israel, owner of Black Box, in a statement. “There’s so much more to Black Box than the pastries people already love. We’ve spent years perfecting one corner of our galaxy, and now we get to explore the rest of the universe.”

The new location will also have a dedicated coffee program, and the sandwiches will be served on house-made bread, such as challah, baguette, or focaccia. There will also be a handful of indoor tables and a small patio.

Israel is hoping to open the store this fall. The original space inside the Edgewater Public Market currently remains open and operating.
