FEEL-GOOD PURCHASES
Fashion market
Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Walnut Foundry
3002 Walnut St., Denver
Think global, shop local. Nice sentiment, but who has the time to search every indie retailer in town for the perfect holiday gift? Fashion Denver feels our pain and steps up each December with the SNOW Holiday show, which also benefits the Denver Rescue Mission. This year 36 local designers will show their stuff, including Laughing Mango handmade glass, above.
A TREEFUL OF DENVER
Pathway of peace
The Ellipse,
Washington, D.C.
When the president flipped the switch on the National Christmas Tree on Thursday he also turned on the lights for a tree decorated by 65 kindergartners from Smith Renaissance School of the Arts in Denver, who sent peace- themed paper-and-crayon ornaments for its branches. It’s one of 50 lining the Pathway of Peace on the way to the big tree.
BEE-AUTIFUL GIFTS
Homegrown honey
Dave’s Apiaries,
321 Curtis St., Brush,
970-842-2488
Four days a week, out of an old Toyota pickup parked at strategic intersections in Fort Morgan and Atwood, beekeeper David Hemby sells raw, pure honey by the jar, bottle or jug. It comes in two colors: light (from fields of alfalfa) or dark (from tamarisk, willow or Russian olive). At prices from $2.25 for a 12-ounce bear to $20 for a 12-pound gallon, it’s one sweet deal. Yum.
