What on earth is going on around here? For starters:

Friends of Arapahoe House will be honoring Judy and Charlie McNeil at the 2007 Pillars of the Community Gala. The CEO and president of NexGen Resources, Charlie is a graduate of Colorado School of Mines and is active in both local and national mining organizations. Judy, whose degree is from the University of Northern Colorado, has held leadership positions with the Denver Center Alliance, the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, AWARE, the Central City Opera Guild and Arapahoe House. They were introduced at a reception held at the home of former Pillars honoree Dick Saunders and will be honored at the gala scheduled for March 10.

Barbara Kelley’s Denver home was the setting for a luncheon at which Friends for Families First installed its leadership team for 2006-2007. Melody Staffen succeeded Cindie LoSasso as president; vice presidents are Glory Weisberg, Mary Margaret Palms, Barb Ingalls and Vicki Hattin. Nancy Bernstein takes over as secretary; Sandra Arkin is the treasurer and the fundraising chairs are Mary Mahoney, Sally Newcomb, Brooke Parker and Daphyne Reiff (Drive for Community $Changes$); Brenda Clement (Fore Families First … A Golf Tournament); and Pam Gatz and Cheryl Paxton (Steppin’ Out 2007).

Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and his wife, Annabel, are honorary chairmen for Friday night’s Brown Robe Benefit: An Evening in Assisi. It’s a benefit for the Denver-based Capuchin Province of Mid-America, and begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt Denver, 1750 Welton St. 9News anchor Adele Arakawa will serve as emcee for the dinner and auction planned by a committee that includes Fr. Adam’s Camp, which gives kids and young adults with disabilities the opportunity to develop strengths in a recreational setting, turned 20 this year and longtime supporter Janet Elway hosted a celebration to mark the occasion at her home last Friday morning.

Rocky Mountain chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is welcoming Rebecca Russell as its new executive director. She comes from the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Colorado.
