Looking to decorate your kitschy rec room or add a little irony to your fab retro bedroom? You need a Velvet Elvis. Look no further for the fuzzy, funky collectibles than the Phoenix Gallery in the basement at 3 Kings Tavern on South Broadway.

The Velvet Art Show offers viewers a chance to revel in the many variations of the “Velvis.” Elvis Presley, the glitzy, hip-swiveling King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, for decades has been painted on velvet canvases that reflect his every mood, gesture, costume and era. You’ll see the chubby Vegas-

style Velvis, the ballad-singing Crying Velvis, the hard-

rockin’ Sneering Velvis and more. The show also includes other velvet paintings featuring many subjects: Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Marilyn Monroe are represented in their very own lowbrow glory, as are cutesy unicorns, sad-eyed puppies and a series of seriously creepy pieces of horror art.

Many of the paintings are included in a silent auction through the end of the month, with proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. But whether or not you choose to adopt one of these velvet masterpieces, the show is certainly entertaining enough to warrant a quick visit.

Through Nov. 30, 3 Kings Tavern, 60 S. Broadway, 303-777-7370.
