“Pete & Pillar: The Big Rain,” by Jeffrey Stoddard (Warner Press, $12.99; ages 4-7)
Dig it.
Colorado Springs author and illustrator Jeffery Stoddard translates a Bible verse (John 15:13) into a story about a diesel truck and a bulldozer. Their friendship is “odd, because everybody knows haulers don’t talk to diggers,” Stoddard observes, but Pete (the truck) and Pillar (the dozer) care more about relationship than public relations. When a storm threatens to flood the village, and Pillar too, Pete makes the ultimate sacrifice.
