BOULDER — The man accused of killing Susannah Chase on a Boulder street as she returned home more than 10 years ago has asked for a new lawyer.
Boulder District Judge James Klein will appoint new counsel for Diego Olmos Alcalde, 39, according to court records. Alcalde’s arraignment, which was set for Thursday, has been continued to Sept. 18.
It is the third time Alcalde’s plea has been continued.
He had been represented by Boulder County public defenders Seth Temin and Yasmin Forouzandeh.
Boulder police arrested Alcalde in January after DNA found on Chase was matched to his in a national databank.
Chase, a 23-year-old University of Colorado senior, was beaten with a baseball bat and raped near her Boulder apartment in 1997.
