Four people were shot and two others taken into custody late Tuesday night in Mesa County.

Information about the four wounded people was not available at midnight. The shooting at 458 Mae St. in Clifton was reported at 10:40 p.m.

“We have no idea about a motive yet,” said Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Mary Gonzales. “It’s just too soon in the investigation.” Police dogs and officers from several agencies were reportedly going door to door in the neighborhood to “see if there are more victims or suspects out there,” Gonzales said.

Four people were rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.

Clifton is an unincorporated community of about 18,000 just east of Grand Junction.
