A closing-time argument at an Adams County topless bar spilled out into a parking lot, where a man grabbed a shotgun from the trunk of a car and fatally shot another man, police said.

The killing happened about 1:35 a.m. Thursday at Saturday Night Live, 7950 Federal Blvd., according to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office news release.

John Paul Valdez, 25, was arrested as a suspect in the case, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“An argument between strangers inside the business was the start of the incident,” the release said.

The Sheriff’s Office said Valdez pointed a 12-gauge shotgun at Javier Ruacho-Benitez and fired a single, fatal blast.

A patrol shift supervisor with the Sheriff’s Office was nearby on Federal and heard the shotgun blast. The supervisor spotted a vehicle fleeing the parking lot and pursued it until it crashed.

The driver ran, and deputies with dogs tracked him to a hiding place near a home. Valdez was taken to a hospital to be treated for a dog bite, the Sheriff’s Office said.
