For 22 years, the has taken over during the July Fourth holiday, filling the streets with paintings, sculptures, photography and other forms of art. Now the festival is honoring its host, donating a sculpture by to the district. The 15-foot-tall “Tower of Man” will be unveiled and dedicated today in ceremonies beginning at 5 p.m. on Steele Street between East Second and East Third avenues. After the dedication, the district’s galleries and restaurants will offer events and tastings from 6:30-8 p.m. Merchants will be giving out “passports” to participating businesses and those who complete the cards will be eligible for a gift certificate.
