In 1972, high heels and platforms were in. For men as well as women. Ditto for high-waisted pleated pants and slinky shirts, say Jim and Linda Stevens. They should know — that’s when they and Linda’s sister Janet Lepp started , a store selling contemporary men’s and women’s fashion in Fort Collins. For a number of years they had stores both there and in Denver, but now have one location in Denver, 10,000 square feet with such signature fixtures as a barber’s chair and antique furniture. They’ve seen fashion trends come and go, from the baggy jeans and 40-inch flared bottoms of the 1970s to the skinnies of today. Through it all the store has dressed customers for their casual as well as business lives and offered a full range of accessories, including shoes, jewelry and handbags. “We’re less defined by age than by your fashion attitude,” says Linda Stevens. “We’re on-trend but not trendy. There’s more longevity to what we do.” The store is thanking customers Friday by offering $40 off their purchase from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (minimum $50 purchase and one to a customer). They’ll be celebrating with champagne and hors d’oeuvres from 4-6 p.m. 2595 S. Colorado Blvd., 303-757-3371 1972 ad image provided by The Garment District
