Funeral services for former state Senator Regis Groff will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shorter AME Church in Denver, the family said Tuesday.
Groff, the second black state senator in Colorado history, at age 79.
Groff served as a state senator from 1974 to 1994. There were only a handful of blacks who served with him during that period, including Penfield Tate and Wilma Webb, the wife of former Denver mayor Wellington Webb.
Groff’s son, Peter, became Colorado’s first black state Senate president in 2008.
Peter Groff said his wife Regina, an ordained minister, will give the eulogy.
