A grass fire along U.S. 34 east of Kersey is now estimated to be at 9,000 acres officials said Friday night.
The fire originated at U.S. 34 and County Road 61 said Platte Valley Fire Authority spokeswoman Stephanie Cook.
Interstate 76 was closed for a while earlier Friday at U.S. 34 due to the blaze, the Colorado Department of Transportation said.
No injuries have been reported, the fire district said, and there are no structures threatened.
At least six other departments are responding to the fire, Cook said.
Cook said to be aware of smoke in the area.
Two air tankers made drops Friday to help firefighters protect structures threatened by the fast-moving fire.
Multiple fire departments were fighting the blaze, which is about 50 percent contained at 8 p.m., into the night.
