Heavy rain left standing water on highways, making the Wednesday morning commute tricky in parts of the Denver metro area.

Some trucks and cars were hydroplaning on streets that had several inches of standing water.

“We’re expecting locally heavy showers, decreasing through the morning,” said Natalie Gusack, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Patchy fog is expected Wednesday before 9 a.m., according to the NWS in Boulder. The high temperature in the Denver area is expected to be in the low 70s, Gusack said.

Another round of possibly heavy rain is expected after 2 p.m., along with steady winds from 6 to 13 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph.

“There is a potential for small hail, but nothing severe,” Gusack said.
