A 54-year-old Lakewood man has died from injuries he sustained Monday after crashing into a deer in Vail.

The collision happened about 12:30 a.m. Monday on the 3600 block of North Frontage Road near the East Vail interchange. Police say the crash was discovered by a taxi driver who immediately called 911.

The motorcyclist, Gary George Stock, was breathing but unresponsive to arriving emergency workers, authorities say. He was rushed to Vail Valley Medical Center by ambulance before being flown to Denver Health Medical Center.

Police said Stock’s initial condition was “severe” and that he had major injuries to his head and torso. On Tuesday afternoon, police announced that he died.

Stock was not wearing a helmet. The deer he struck did not survive, police say.
