There’s a strong chance for rain across the Front Range Thursday after a cold front packed with moisture enters the state.

It could rain during the commute Thursday morning, but rain and thunderstorms are more likely after 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

The temperature is expected to fall short of 80 degrees on a cloudy, breezy day. There is a small chance for severe conditions in the Denver area in the afternoon, with the possibility of hail and gusting winds, said Kari Bowen, meteorologist for the NWS.

The Eastern Plains are more likely to get large hail and damaging winds, according to Bowen.

Thunder is expected after midnight early Friday morning.

There’s a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday, mostly after noon. The high temperature will be around 77 degrees on Friday. Winds could gust up to 20 mph.

Rain and thunderstorms are possible through the holiday weekend, but the likelihood diminishes gradually until Independence Day on Monday, when there is only a slight chance for rain, according to the NWS.

Temperatures will climb over the holiday weekend to around 80 degrees on Saturday, 84 on Sunday and 88 by Monday.

Next week is shaping up to be mostly sunny, dry and hot, with temperatures reaching 91 on Tuesday and 92 on Wednesday.
