Pueblo police say more evidence shows last week was an accident, including a witness who heard the trio jumping into the deep end of the mobile home park pool where they were found.

Investigators on Monday said other children were in the pool at the time the three drowned but that it wasn’t until shortly after the group had jumped in that someone spotted a body floating in the water.

Police say the pool’s deep end is 8 feet deep but did not elaborate on why the trio jumped in. Authorities say they have spoken to witnesses, but did not say exactly how many people saw the events leading up to, during and after the drownings.

“At this point the investigation has shown no criminal wrongdoing but is still active and ongoing pending the final autopsy report from the coroner, police said in a news release.

The three girls have been identified as 3-year-old Azucena Gandarilla, 6-year-old Amaya Gandarilla and 17-year-old Joo Lee. Police say Joo was a “sitter” for the younger girls and that she was watching the pair at the time of the drowning.

Authorities have not said if any of the girls could swim.

Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter last week .

Officers responding the afternoon of Aug. 8  found the trio and tried to resuscitate them, but efforts of first responders came too late.
