Bargain burger

Before you stuff yourself on Thursday, stuff yourself with savings at Sonic Drive-In. On Nov. 22, the fast-food chain is celebrating Thanksgiving a few days early by offering cheeseburgers at 50 percent off at participating locations. With no limit, everyone in the family can chomp on a cheeseburger.

Ice follies

Strap on your skates for a little winter fun, without breaking the bank. Free ice skating returns to downtown Denver’s Skyline Park, as Southwest Rink opens from Nov. 22 to Feb.14, 2017. The rink is located at 16th and Arapahoe streets, next to the landmark D&F Clocktower. Hours vary, so call the rink’s hotline at 303-825-6787 for information, including weather and programming updates. Bring your own skates or rent a pair for just $2. Among the special programs this season are a Broomball Challenge and free skating lessons.

Parks and recreation

If you’d rather not fight the hordes of bargain hunters on Black Friday, get out into the fresh air for a healthy post-Thanksgiving adventure. Thanks to Great Outdoors Colorado, non-shoppers get free admission on Nov. 25 to any of Colorado’s 42 state parks. During Fresh Air Friday, snow and ice conditions permitting, enjoy ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, skating, snowmobiling, hiking and wildlife viewing.

Night light

If you’re looking to amp up your night life, head to downtown Denver over the holidays. The Downtown Denver Grand Illumination lights up the city from Union Station to the City & County Building on Nov. 25. Festivities around Civic Center Park start at 6 p.m., with the lights turned on shortly thereafter. Lights will also illuminate Union Station at 6:30 p.m. More than 3 million lights will sparkle in the city, including at Skyline Park, the Tabor Center, D&F Tower, Larimer Square, Denver Pavilions and all along the 16th Street Mall. Expect RTD’s free MallRide to be especially crowded on the first night, but, remember, the lights sparkle all season long.

Apple a day

Hungry bargain hunters never dine out without a coupon or promo on the menu. That’s why they will love this new deal from Applebee’s. For a limited time, the popular restaurant is offering a special buy-one-get-one menu. For $12.49, choose from Fiesta Lime Chicken, Oriental Chicken Salad, Three-Cheese Chicken Cavatappi, Chicken Tenders Basket or Shrimp Won-Ton Stir Fry. Then, get a second entrée from the same menu for free. No coupon needed. If you dine alone, just take the second entrée to go for dinner or lunch the next day.
