Coroner identifies 23-year-old Fort Collins man killed by Larimer County sheriff’s deputies

The Larimer County Medical Examiner has identified the while fleeing officers Friday night.

Chet Knuppel, 23, of Fort Collins, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the medical examiner’s office said.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said Knuppel was shot while deputies pursued him for driving an allegedly stolen vehicle about 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

After crashing the vehicle in a field near Colorado 392 and Larimer County 9, Knuppel fled on foot.

Deputies fired and one shot hit Knuppel. He died at a hospital later in the evening.

The names of the deputies involved have not been released.
