Broncos nose tackle Shelby Harris is among the most jovial interviews in the team’s locker room.
But his big smile Friday afternoon might make some Denver sports fans frown.
“You can’t play with me when it comes to my team, man,” Harris said. “I’ve been a Brewers fan for a long time.”
A Broncos rooting against his team’s hometown baseball club? Sure seems like sports treason around these parts. But forgive Harris for his Brewers love. He’s no bandwagon fan, and like those who’ve followed the Rockies for years and years, he’s starving for a deep Milwaukee playoff run.
The Brewers and Rockies have each made one World Series appearance. Neither has won it. Call them fans of kindred spirits.
Harris attended Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisc., about 20 miles north of Milwaukee, and said: “Since birth, I’ve been all Wisconsin sports — Brewers, Bucks (and) Badgers).” And, he’s locked in enough to provide a stellar scouting report of the Brewers.
“They don’t necessarily have the starting pitching that other teams have. The Rockies have Kyle Freeland and (German) Marquez. The Brewers have a bullpen. If you can get to the sixth inning with a lead or tied, itap shut down. Itap over. Itap unstoppable.”
However, Harris would like to see the Rockies take just one to force a Game 4on Mondaynight when he will be back in Denver to watch from Coors Field.
A diehard Brewers fan in the heart of Rocktober.
