Drivers should slow down on slick roads in the Denver area Sunday morning, officials warned as the region was hit with early morning snow showers.
The snow is expected to drop between two and four inches on the metro area Sunday morning before petering off in the afternoon. The fresh snowfall created slippery, wet and at times icy conditions on Interstate 25, Interstate 70 and other major thoroughfares, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
No major crashes or closures had been reported early Sunday morning, according to CDOT.
Travelers in the mountains, particularly on I-70, are likely to see delays and potential road closures Sunday, CDOT spokesman Phillip Embry said.
“We are asking that all motorists do anticipate needing extra time, especially in the high country,” he said, adding that the mountain roads had heavy snowfall, icy conditions and some visibility issues Sunday.
“Itap moving but itap definitely super icy,” he said.

CDOT warned that it could close I-70 for avalanche mitigation at times throughout the weekend, and that officials expected heavy traffic on I-70, U.S. 285 and other mountain routes on Sunday.
The Regional Transportation District said its bus routes could see delays of 20 minutes Sunday as drivers dealt with the road conditions, with longer delays expected in the mountains.
