Traffic officials had urged drivers to be cautious and have patience during the evening commute, after morning crashes caused some partial road closures on highways across the city. Several cities joined Denver in declaring the crash alert status.
Traffic around the metro area had a few evening commute crashes, but for the most part it was pretty smooth, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler of the Colorado State Patrol.
“We didn’t have anything big,” Cutler said of evening traffic accidents.
The snow is expected to continue overnight, Cutler urged morning drivers to “keep a safe distance from the car in front of you for plenty of time to stop.”
Before hitting the highway for the Friday a.m. commute, drivers should be careful on side streets and roads where they sometimes let their guard down, Cutler said.
As of Thursday afternoon, 3 inches of snow had been reported in Arvada, with 3.5 inches in Boulder and 4.3 inches in Genesee.
About 8 p.m. Thursday the temperature in Denver was 18 degrees and humidity was 89%, according to the National Weather Service. Light snow was falling with fog and mist in some areas.
