Westbound Interstate 70 in Aurora was closed for four hours Thursday morning after a car crash killed a man near Peña Boulevard, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a car crash involving a Prius and a semitruck around 5 a.m. Thursday, Aurora Police Department spokesperson Sydney Edwards said.

The crash temporarily shut down the westbound lanes of I-70 starting at exit 283 for Chambers Road for the investigation, according to a . The interstate reopened just before 9 a.m.

Officers found the Prius lodged under the back of the semitruck due to a rear-end collision, and speed may have been a factor in the crash, Edwards said. Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Prius dead at the scene.

The Adam’s County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity and official cause of death at a later date.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
